- How we handle this situation will define how our company is seen for a very long time.
- Develop permanent solutions to these temporary problems. Use this time to design systems and tackle projects that we haven’t had time for in the past.
- Have senior leaders take direct control of what people care about like safety. Put someone in charge of connecting the company through virtual fun – ideas and games.
- A crisis is a terrible thing to waste. Discontinuity should give you the courage to implement changes and try things that you normally wouldn’t have done. Be proactive and innovative. Kill the ‘way we’ve always done this’ mindset.
- Meditations help as well as the stoic mindset. External vs. internal. You can’t control external at all. Internal is the reaction of external and only thing we can control.
- Where do we want to be in 90 days? What do we need to do now to get there? Ask employees, leaders and customers. Approach all opportunities with an entrepreneurial mindset.
- Protecting your company and brand for the future is the most important thing right now. Make tough decisions now so people can come back to your company in the Fall. Balance an intense sense of urgency with getting the right information to act. Use your group as part of the process. Right now you need to make monthly decisions weekly.
- Keep the main thing the main thing. Do what you’re best at – adapt your skills but focus on your strengths.
- Create a lot of small, good stories to drive engagement on social media during this time. Post positive messaging.
- Plan for the worst, hope for the best.
- Have someone on your team accountable for staying up to date on research as it evolves. Especially government laws, support and taxes.
- Look for opportunities in all this. For instance, it’s much easier to get your house in order with a core team of A players and ramp back up.
- Focus on the 5 F’s – Faith, Family, Friends, Fitness, Finances.
